Friday morning my neighbor knocked on my door and gave me a package. He told me the mailman rang at my door two days ago, but no one answered so he gave it to the neighbor to give to me. “It’s from America”, he added in a way as if expecting an explanation from me. Ay, Armenian neighbors are so nosy! When I opened it, this was inside:
I had won Michael Cunningham’s The Hours in Alisia’s give-away at Book Haven. Thank you so much, Alisia!
I couldn’t post earlier because picture uploading WordPress didn’t work somehow.
This was actually the first piece of mail I received since moving to this apartment in October. I try to avoid the mail system in Armenia, because it is not 100% trustworthy or rather the people working in it are not.
I have never read anything by Virginia Woolf, but she has been very high on my list of authors I want to read, so when I was in Holland in January I decided to act. I took The Waves and To the Lighthouse back with me to Armenia and now The Hours has been added, I see my personal mini-Virginia Woolf challenge looming up on the horizon! I’ll keep you posted!

In Europa - Geert Mak
Kindertijd Jeugdjaren Jongelingschap (Childhood Boyhood Youth) - Lev Tolstoy

gefeliciteerd, myrthe, het is een mooi boek.
Ben benieuwd naar je oordeelliefs, Aukje
The Hours is one of my most favorite movies. I hope you enjoy it!
I have a friend who lives in China who has the same problems with the mail system! I send her all the books that I am reading, but she is a speed reader so she goes through them like water! Anytime someone is going to China I send books with them for her!
I feel for you! Glad you got some new ones!!
The mail system now is not as bad anymore as it was some years ago, Darcie, but I am still kind of hesitant to have mail sent here. I have a Dutch friend who regularly gets packages from Holland, but from time to time he complains about something getting lost or being delivered at least a month after it was sent.
